Squenix Contest Continued

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 13, 2008, 9:19 AM
Sorry, dA admin dropped the ball on this one.

1. Okay, the extended the deadline one week. Lolz!
2. The rules have been "clarified". Meaning, they're still vague as fuck, but they actually state the art will not be used. Of course, this is two weeks later, and the reasoning for the funky copyright? Still not anywhere in the rules nor disclaimer where it should be if there are going to be joint parties handling copyright. The reasoning, you have to go to a pissed off admin's journal to find out why. If it was just dA, fine. If it was just Squenix, fine. But two seperate parties, no. You have the clarify.
3. I also got sick of linking to certain journals bashing the contest. Considering spec work is something that's been going on for decades, and yes, it's a big deal. However, this wasn't worth the pitchforks. Laughing at it and giving a little warning to our younger artists to watching out for things like this, yes definitely worth it. That's why I did my little journal entry :)

Honestly, this is one of the worst handlings of PA I've ever ran across anywhere. But it's dA; I shouldn't be surprised. I'm also personally offended that the admins running the contest are surprised and butthurt that people were suspicous. Well, when you're absolutely not upfront about what things are going to used for, then duh. This site has a community filled with professionals as well as amature artists. The admins themselves run a business and some are professionals themselves. When they should not be surprised that when word something like this clearly that their peers are not going to be supportive. That's why the entries for this contest haven't been as up-to-par as some of the other contests they have ran in the past, and unfortunately, they probably didn't get the kind of quality participation they've received in the past because of that. I shouldn't have to accidentally come across an admin's journal to know why things are worded they way they are. That should've been a link in the contest disclaimer from day one :)

Anyway, my two cents. Just saying, this was really badly handled :P. And I will say, even with the "clarification" done in the contest rules, it still reeks of two companies looking for spec work, even know I "know better" supposedly. And there isn't a link in the rules nor the disclaimer for the reasoning behind the work sizes.

...So, basically, this is what this sounds like: dA and Squenix teamed up to get free concept art and ad art for game development. And the only compensation one might get (if you're one of the lucky ten winners in less than two week deadline!) is...a copy of a DS game. Well, at least only the North Americans can get screwed in this deal! :D

I know I've been kinda lacking on the updates here, but if anyone's bored, I've added a few new sketches to my online sketchbook:

ARGH!!!!!!

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 25, 2008, 10:04 AM
WHY?

....Look, if you like the art, fine. Link to my gallery, email the URLs to your friends, hell...SAVE the images on your own harddrives and print them out for yourself. I don't mind people wanting to show their friends my stuff and all, it's publicity. Publicity is good, and I'm flattered you like (or hate) my stuff that much.

But, please do not put my images on MySpace or Photobucket. The only reasons I BEG you not to do that is that 1) Photobucket can make profit from prints of MY images. Money I'll never see from my work and 2) it is EXTREMELY difficult to get images uploaded on Photobucket permamently removed.

Please, please, please, PLEASE! I mean, seriously I'd rather you use something like 4chan if you want to show my stuff off without asking. But Photobucket, no. God, please don't.
