Actually, no. She's not. She was always a woman in the Japanese versions of Final Fight. But, for a port to one of Nintendo's older systems and for the U.S., Nintendo said that it was too violent to have Cody and Guy beating up on a woman, back in their "let's censor everything!" stupidity days of the 16-bit era. Thus, for the US version of Final Fight, Poison was referred to as male.
